Happy Mother’s Day!

Today is a day to recognize and remember mothers and motherhood. While Hallmark and other greeting card companies make millions this season due to sales of cards and gifts, we must not forget the one who gave us mothers. God created the family, beginning with the first marriage of Adam and Eve all the way to children and even today. God adores parents, even instructing children to honor and obey their parents.

Mothers have a very important role in families. It is mothers who give birth (as a male, let me say that I’m too wimpy to give birth–my wife is stronger than I in that matter). It is mothers who stay up all night when the child is sick. The phrase “angry mama bear” is quite true: try to harm a child and see what a loving mother does to defend her children. The heart of a mother is a heart that values her children over herself.

But where do these traits come from? They are rooted and born out of a deep love for God above all. A mother who loves God, who believes in Jesus, is a mother who loves her family. My own mother and mother-in-law are in love with Jesus and puts him first. My wife is the same way in her deep love for Jesus. All of them are exemplary mothers.

Remember your mother today. If she is still with you, give her a call and tell her how much you thank God for her. Tell her Jesus loves her. Tell her you love her. Better yet, show her you love her. And always remember to pray for your mother.

God bless mothers.
